Chapter 15

Carson

On our way back, we ran across another unrecognizable stronghold. According to its location we assumed it to belong to Shaye, the smallest of the vampire clans. It was nestled deep within the heart of the woods, no doubt it was built at one time by humans.

"Look at those fucking bastards," I growled, watching them from the windshield while several of their people walked around the camp.

Connie took a large swig of moonshine from the jug before passing it to me and then to our other comrades. The liquid contents burned as it went down my throat, igniting a fire already sparking within me.

"Lets kill the sons of bitches," I spontaneously decided, still amped up from the battle we just witnessed earlier. I floored the accelerator of our moonshine powered van causing it to roar to life. The engine hummed with a power that was both intoxicating and terrifying. We charged toward the stronghold, our weapons ready crashing through their defenses, plowing through their barricades like they were made of paper.

The stronghold was soon in ruins, some of the bastards were run over by our tires, leaving them either dead. We continued to chase down the ones that fled for their lives, running them down one by one, intoxicated on our own false liquid bravado. We soon stopped the vehicle, desperate to get in on the action, shooting at their retreating forms.

Their bodies began falling like flies until they regrouped and went on the attack. Their fangs bared as they leaped in our direction. But they didn’t account for our secret weapon—An old fire hose connected to a barrel of moonshine. Jared began pumping the handle, pressurizing it while we waited on them to get closer, their mouths foaming with excitement at the pitiful humans who ran into their establishment.

"Stupid, bastards. Let ‘em have it!" I laughed while spraying them with the alcohol, soaking their pale skinned bodies.

They growled with a look of confusion etched into their face before bursting into laughter. "Is this supposed to hurt us, human?" One of them walked toward us slowly. "I will drain all of you dry and shit out your corpses."

A grin crept across my face when I looked over at my comrades. I casually struck a match and lit the cigarette hanging from my lips. "Naw, you bastards, you only will do one thing now. And that's to burn into ash."

I flicked the match onto the floor and watched as flames erupted, traveling at a high speed toward their bodies. They all burst into flames, illuminating the night around us. The sight was a beauty to behold. Their screams echoed through the stronghold, like a beautiful symphony of agony and desperation—the same damage they cause to us humans time and time again.

The fire spread rapidly like a river, consuming everything in its path, turning the once formidable bloodsuckers into mere victims of their own cockiness. We walked away from the inferno as it slowly ignited the building’s walls with a smile.

These bloodsuckers, who were once a menacing force, were no more.
